Do Less, Achieve More: Effortless Productivity Hack

Hello friends,

do you ever find yourself struggling to manage your time and increase productivity? Do distractions and unnecessary tasks prevent you from staying focused and achieving your goals?

I struggled for years, but you're not alone.

Many people face these challenges on a daily basis, and it can be difficult to know where to start when trying to overcome them.

Over the years, I have picked up some strategies that have helped me. In the simplest form, for me, both in business and life, it always comes down to:

  • Doing less

  • Focusing

  • Getting more done

I hope you find these insights helpful. As always, I welcome your feedback and suggestions for future topics. Let's go!

1. Value Your Time

Do it now. Don’t wait for retirement to enjoy your kids. You cannot get back time. Live in the moment.

2. Pareto Principle 80/20 Rule Extreme

Take the normal Pareto principle to the extreme. Go even further and reduce your focus to just one thing. Take that 20% and get it down to another 20% and again.

Mindset:

  • A few ideas give you most of your results.

  • A small number of people create most of your business success.

  • A handful of investments put the most money in your pocket.

3. The Power of Saying No

Being productive is about saying no to most things. It’s not measured by how many things you can accomplish or how many tasks you can do at once.

It’s hard to say no, but you can say it politely to others to save your precious time.

Just focus on your goals and say no to most offers that distract you. This is harder than you think. Distractions are everywhere. If someone needs your help, refer them to others.

When you say yes to something, you say no to everything else.

When Steve Jobs came back to Apple, he reduced the product line from 30 products to 10.

4. Discover Your Big WHY (Purpose)

Happiness comes from making your life about something bigger, not by seeking happiness.

Ask yourself:

  • What drives you?

  • What is the thing that gets you up in the morning and keeps you going when you're tired?

5. Time Blocking

If you have one thing, block the appropriate time in your calendar. If you have a regular task, block a time every day. Meetings, calls, etc., can wait.

Block 30 minutes - 1 hour in morning or before everyone gets to sleep. Do more if you can. People overestimate what they can achieve. Breaking down big goals into small ones is the way.

This is how you create your most productive days for the rest of your life.

Stephen King blocks 4 hours every day for writing. Ask yourself, does he become Stephen King because he is devoting 4 hours of writing every day?

6. One Thing to Achieve Your Goals

Why don't people achieve their goals? They don't connect their now with the future. People don't see what they are doing now can offer value later.

Example: When you offer people a reward of 100€ now or 200€ later, people would mostly choose the 100€ right now.

Ask yourself every day, what is one thing I can do to achieve my goals? Make it a daily habit. It might take 66 days to get to the daily habit. Set yourself a reminder, ask friends to hold you accountable, put a sign on your wall at the office.

This helps you not overwhelm yourself with too many other things and keeps you focused. Instead of doing many things at once, focus on one thing.

7. How to Build Habits. Selective Discipline

Build a few powerful habits. Build one at a time and channel your energy towards them.

It will simplify your life and decisions because you will know what to do.

Use my example: I run 1000k every year. If you want to be a great runner, just start running, keep running, and don’t focus on volleyball.

8. Distraction and Multitasking

Every day, we are bombarded with more information and choices than the previous generation had in a lifetime. Attempting to accomplish too much leads to little being done.

Why are we distracted by our phones or doing multiple things at once? We expect doctors to focus on surgery and not do multiple things at once. Why don’t we keep our focus on our job or most important task and still try to multitask?

Distraction comes in many little forms in life. It also means that you have to let go of other things.

For example, Apple focuses on the iPhone, and Starbucks just serves coffee. Brands that focus on one thing evolve, get better, and try to be the best every single day.

Focus on one thing that has the most value will bring you further in life.

9. Think Big

Avoid thinking incrementally like "What do I do next?" Think bigger. Double down on everything in your life. If your goal is 10, ask yourself how you can reach 20.

Think big and connect yourself with the future you. Thinking big helps you take the necessary steps to get there.

Don’t order from the menu that everyone else is having; ask for what is not on the menu.

10. Counterbalance

Do the things you value the most and give them your full attention. Be okay with things that are not getting done.

When you are at work, work. If you are at home, be home. Be in the moment fully to have the best chance of achievement.
